The Korean peninsula extends southward from the eastern end of the Asian continent. It is roughly 1,000 km (621 miles) long and 216 km (134 miles) wide at its narrowest point. Mountains cover 70% of the land mass, making it one of the most mountainous regions in the world. The peninsula is divided just slightly north of the 38th parallel. South Korea has a population of 48.6 million and consists of nine provinces, capital Seoul, six metropolitan cities, and an additional 77 cities and 88 counties.



Seoul has been the center of politics, economy and culture of Korea for six centuries since King Taejo, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty, who moved the capital here in the 3rd year (1394) of his reign. From ancient palaces with centuries of history to high-tech skyscraper of steel and glass, from ancient texts dating back millennia to the highest rate of broadband internet access in the world, Seoul is a place where the old and new exist in harmony. Korea's climate is regarded as a continental climate from a temperate standpoint and a monsoonal climate from a precipitation standpoint. The climate of Korea is characterized by four distinct seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. The average temperature during the conference is between 8��C and 19��C which will be perfectly pleasant and comfortable.
