Since insulin was first introduced 90 years ago, a lot of effort has been made to develp new drugs for treatment of diabetes. A variety of new drugs such as metformin, sulfonylureas, glinides, alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, TZDs, and incretin-based therapies which were first employed in 2005, are now used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. However, due to the limitations in long-term efficacy and various side effects of these drugs, there has not yet been a perfect solution for treatment of diabetes. Thus, many diabetes researchers are currently investigating solutions based on the pathogenesis of the disease in the molecular level. In this session, Dr. Seung Joon Oh from Kyung Hee University, Korea, will be presenting the results from recent studies on inhibiting abnormally increased glucagon action through glucagon receptor antagonists, regulating blood glucose in diabetes patients. This lecture will be followed by Dr. Bong Soo Cha from Yonsei University, Korea, who will be presenting the recent results- both positive and negative- from studies on the effects of PPAR/ dual agonists, which affect both TZD receptor, PPAR, and the PPAR receptor associated with fatty acid oxidation, on blood glucose regulation. Dr. Munehiro Kitada from Kanazawa University, Japan, will present the effects of SIRT1, which is associated with improvement of insulin resistance, on obesity and diabetes. We will close this session with a presentation from Dr. Patrick R. Griffin from the Scripps Research Institute, USA, who will be presenting on the possibility for a diabetes treatment modality using non-agonist ligand mechanism on PPAR receptor different from TZD-class drugs. |
| 약 90년 전 인슐린이 처음 사용된 이래 당뇨병 치료제에 대한 연구개발 또한 활발하게 이루어져 왔다. 이후 제2형 당뇨병환자에 사용되는 메트포르민, 설폰요소제, 글리나이드, 알파글루코시다제 억제제, TZD 그리고 2005년 새롭게 등장하기 시작한 인크레틴 치료제까지 많은 새로운 약제들이 현재 사용되고 있지만, 각 약제들이 가지는 부작용과 효과 지속성 결여 등으로 인해 당뇨병 치료는 완전한 해결책을 얻지 못하고 있다. 따라서 많은 연구자들이 현재 당뇨병의 병인적 측면이나 이와 관련된 다양한 분자레벨에서의 치료적 접근을 시도하고 있다. 본 세션에서는 경희의대 오승준 교수가 당뇨병환자에서 비정상적으로 증가되어 있는 글루카곤 작용을 억제하여 혈당조절 효과를 갖는 글루카곤 수용체 antagonist에 대한 최근 연구 결과들을 발표할 예정이다. 이어서 연세의대 차봉수 교수는 TZD 수용체인 PPARγ와 지방산 산화와 관련된 PPARα 수용체에 동시 작용을 갖는 PPARα/γ agonist가 각각의 수용체 단일 효과에 비해 혈당 조절에서 얻을 수 있는 장단점들에 대한 최근 결과들을 소개할 예정이다. 그리고 일본 Kanazawa 의대 Munehiro Kitada 교수가 인슐린저항성 개선과 관련되어 있는 것으로 알려진 SIRT1의 비만 및 당뇨병 치료효과를 발표하고, 끝으로 미국 Scripps Research Institute의 Patrick R. Griffin 교수가 기존의 당뇨병 치료제인 TZD 계열 약제와 달리 PPARγ 수용체에 non-agonist 리간드 기전을 갖는 새로운 물질의 당뇨병 치료제로서의 가능성에 대해 소개할 예정이다.

| The results of many large-scale studies have been published. The diagnostic criteria and health care guidelines for diabetes patients as well as glycemic control objectives are being adjusted and strengthened. On the frontlines are doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and other medical specialists are dealing with many rapidly changing healthcare clinical guidelines while providing care to diabetes patients. However, there is a limit to the amount of information that each individual will be able to receive. This session was made to inform about considerations in practice guidelines and standards for Korean diabetes patients in order to properly manage patients with diabetes through this organization. In this session, we will share the latest medical knowledge on diabetes patient management, which will be helpful in providing first-hand patient care. |
| 대규모의 많은 연구 결과가 발표되면서 당뇨병의 진단 기준 및 당뇨병환자의 진료지침, 혈당 조절 목표 등에 관한 많은 기준이 강화되고 변경 되면서 일선에서 당뇨병환자를 진료하는 의사, 간호사, 영양사 등 많은 의료인이 급격하게 변하는 다양한 진료지침에 대한 정보를 바로 접하는 데는 한계가 있다고 생각되어 이번 학회를 통하여 당뇨병환자의 관리를 올바르게 하기 위한 다양한 진료지침과 기준에 대하여 고찰해 보고 한국당뇨병 관리의 실태를 알리고자 이번 세션을 준비하였다. 이번 세션을 통하여 당뇨병환자의 관리에 대한 최신 의료 지식을 얻고 실제 환자를 관리하는데 도움이 될 것이라고 생각된다. |
